According to WPBF 25 News’ sister station, WESH 2 News, the tragic incident happened at about 11 p.m. when he fell off the “Free Fall” ride, which is the tallest free-standing drop tower in the world at 430 feet. The young boy was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Orange County deputies have identified the victim as Tyre Sampson from Missouri. It was said that he was visiting with another family. Orange County Sheriff John Mina said while the incident looks like a tragic accident, further investigation will reveal exactly what happened: “It appears to be just a terrible tragedy,” Mina said. “We will see moving forward what that results in. WPBF reports that that ride is closed indefinitely.

The sheriff’s office will determine conclusively if Sampson’s death was an accident, according to Mina. The state’s Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is the agency that will oversee if the ride’s safety was compromised, he said.
