August Alsina Reveals Why He Could No Longer Stay Silent About Relationship With Jada Pinkett Smith
In a new interview with PEOPLE Magazine, singer August Alsina opened up about a few things including his relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith that was made public last month. Alsina made the big revelation during an interview with “The Breakfast Club’s” Angela Yee, which sent social media into a big frenzy. Now, although things have died down since then, the 27-year-old is now sharing why he couldn’t keep their relationship a secret.

While speaking with the outlet, Alsina explained, “I really am a private person. People have never known much about my love life because it’s not important.” But following all the rumors of an affair with the 48-year-old actress that kept piling up, Alsina felt he could no longer remain silent, especially when he became the legal guardian to his three nieces — or as he likes to say his, “naughters,”: Chaylin, 14, Amaiya, 13, and Kayden, 11. As PEOPLE reports, the girls’ father, Alsina’s older brother Melvin, was shot to death back in 2010 in New Orleans. Their mother Chandra died of cancer on Christmas Day in 2018.
“I never really cared about what people thought of me, but my personal life started to seep into my business life,” he says. “There were certain falsities about me, and it affected my business relationships. “I could understand why it would look like I’m reckless or disrespectful so it really started to affect my livelihood, and I’m never okay with that,” he said. “I got three kids to look after. Kill me, hate me, stone me, but bury me an honest man. All I can do is tell the truth.”
Pinkett previously spoke out and confirmed her relationship with August Alsina during an Episode of “Red Table Talk.” She was Joined by husband Will Smith while explaining that their marriage was “struggling” when she initially started a “friendship” with Alsina over four years ago.
