In a report by TMZ, the police scanner informed the officers of a gang shooting at Cermak and Spaulding around 9:27 pm. They were told it was a case of “gangbangers vs. gangbangers. They are shooting across at each other” and in response, one of the officers said “Let ’em do it” while his partner exclaims “Let it be!”

There was another call from the radio but it is unclear if the officers actually responded to the shooting. The Chicago PD said in a statement that they are looking into the audio based on its content and authenticity.
