Atlanta Police Officers To Receive $500 Bonus Following Multiple Call Outs

While we reported that precincts in each zone received multiple call outs by Atlanta police officers last night before the evening shift — this following the arrests of the officers involved in Rayshard Brooks’ murder — as of this morning, WSB-TV reports that every officer on the force will receive a one-time $500 bonus today.

As they note that the payouts are not funded by the city or taxpayer dollars, the Atlanta Police Foundation is pulling from their own $2 million fund and issuing each officer $500, in addition to purchasing 20 police cars, replacing those that were destroyed during the protests weeks prior.

Per the news publication, the foundation is sharing these bonuses as a way to say thank you for the long hours and hard work officers have given during the COVID-19 quarantine and protests these past three-plus months.

Furthermore, the announcement of the bonuses arrives within 24 hours of the Atlanta Police Department confirming reports that multiple officers from each zone called out ahead of their shifts. This followed the news of the arrests of the two officers involved in the murder of Rayshard Brooks, and the subsequent charges announced by the Fulton County DA.
