The incident took place in Columbia, South Carolina after Jovan Collazo fled from the Fort Jackson military base during his third week of basic training. Investigators said he left the base in an attempt to return home and hijacked the bus but didn’t have any intentions to harm anyone despite carrying a rifle. Surveillance footage showed Collazo pointing the rifle at the bus driver while yelling at him and getting behind the wheel.

During the drive, several children contacted their parents via cell phone to alert them about the situation while others question Collazo about his intentions. However, the trainee became frustrated with the children and told everyone to get off of the bus. Moments later, he drove to the next town and abandoned the vehicle but was caught when he asked strangers for their clothes.
