Are You Here For This? Katy Perry To Receive The Michael Jackson Vanguard Award At The 2024 MTV VMAs!

Here’s some exciting news this Thursday: As we’re getting closer to the 2024 MTV VMAs, the recipient who will receive the prestigious Michael Jackson Vanguard Award will be going to Katy Perry. Yup, you read that right!

To make the night even more special, the singer is set to return to the MTV VMA stage for the first time since 2017, where she will also give an epic performance.

The pop singer who has won five VMAs across her career and hosted the show once, will soon join the list of past recipients including Shakira, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Missy Elliott. Speaking of honoring the “Fireworks singer” Bruce Gillmer, chief content officer of music at Paramount+ and president of music, music talent, programming and events at Paramount said in a statement,

“Katy is a musical powerhouse and true pop culture icon. With her game-changing creative vision, she has become a global phenomenon and taken over the world’s biggest stages. Katy’s prowess will be on full display LIVE on the VMAs with a can’t-miss, career-encompassing performance celebrating her biggest moments and chart-topping hits,”

MTV also noted that Katy Perry is “One of the best-selling musical artists of all time, she has amassed a cumulative 115 billion streams, worldwide sales of over 70 million adjusted albums, 143 million tracks, and over 27 billion video views. She’s one of only five recording artists in RIAA history to gain entry to the elite 100 Million Certified Songs club, and she now has six singles and one album for a total of SEVEN Diamond-certified titles.”

Reacting to the news, fans took to social media to celebrate. One fan tweeted, “Katy Perry finally getting the Vanguard award for her insane videography… it was long overdue.” Another said, “Hate it or not, but Katy Perry got so many iconic music videos and her YouTube run was insane from Dark Horse to Roar Alone, well deserved👏🏻” A third added, “She didn’t pay for anything. This is her moment and it’s long overdue. I can’t wait to see her shine again. 😍🥰”

The biggest night in music is set to return l LIVE on Wednesday, September 11th at 8 PM ET/PT from New York’s UBS Arena.
