According to MacRumors, the absence of a built-in Calculator app on the iPad has been a significant gap in the device’s utilities, forcing users to turn to third-party apps available on the App Store. Although there are some popular third-party options, a built-in app is expected to integrate more seamlessly with the iPad. Sources close to the company claims that the upcoming iPadOS 18 will include the Calculator app across all compatible iPad models. The upcoming macOS 15 is reportedly having a similar feature with an enhanced Calculator app with capabilities such as integration with the Notes app, resizable window, and a sidebar for viewing recent calculations.

There will be a beta version of ipadOS 18 after the WWDC keynote and a full public release will likely occur in September. The Apple iPad was first introduced by Steve Jobs in 2010, which sparked a new trend in tablet computers. It initially used a scaled-up version of the iPhone operating system but later evolved into its own iPadOS, which allowed for multitasking and other fuctionalities.

When asked about the absence of the Calculator app in 2020, Apple’s software engineering chief stated that the company had not yet developed a Calculator app for the iPad that met their standards for excellence, but did hint that it was only a matter of time. Social media users also reacted to the news and said they waited a long time for the device to have his own app just like the iPhone.
