Anonymous Donor Gives $1 Million To California Hospital

The Coronavirus has brought many people together and shed new light on human kindness as people try to help those in need during these difficult times.

Dignity Health Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz was blessed with $1 million from an anonymous donor. The gift was solely for nurses, cleaning staff, lab techs, medical recorders, mailroom staff, and security guards who have worked at the Hospital for at least a year, and continue to do so during the pandemic. Full-time staff will be given an extra $800, and part-time staff will receive $600.

“To the heroes of Dominican Hospital: Thank you for standing up (and staying up!) to care for our community,” the anonymous donor said in a letter. “This humankindness is what makes you heroic. Please accept this donation in recognition of and with great thanks for all that you do. And please know that my heart is with you as we seek to protect and care for each other during this challenging time.”

Nursing supervisor Amy Loudon spoke on her gratitude for the selfless act and the fact that the money could be shared with all the staff that keeps the hospital running.

“There are so many people who keep the hospital running. Nurses and doctors are getting the praise, but we couldn’t do it without the staff who clean the floors, deliver supplies, fix machines, everything. It’s a team, and I’m glad the whole team is getting a thank you,” she said.
