Amityville Horror’ Murderer Ronald DeFeo In Prison

The man behind the inspiration for the ‘Amityville Horror,’ movie franchise has died in prison. His cause of death has not yet been revealed.

DeFeo became infamous for savagely murdering his six family members in Long Island back in 1974. He was 23 at the time.

DeFeo passed away on Friday while serving a 25 years-to-life sentence at Sullivan Correctional facility in Fallsburg, New York. He was 69-years-old.

DeFeo, known as Butch, killed his mother, father, two sisters and two brothers inside their Amityville home on Ocean Avenue on Nov. 13, 1974. DeFeo claimed an insanity defense at his trial, saying he could hear voices that drove him to murder his family. At one point he even said that his 18-year-old sister killed the other five family members and that he then shot her to stop her.

“I loved my family very much,” he claimed at a 1999 parole hearing.

Those who moved into the home after the murders claimed that it was haunted and that they could hear strange noises, this then prompted a series of movies and books to be written about the location and history.
