An American tourist is facing legal trouble after leaving a negative review about an island resort in Thailand on TripAdvisor.

According to Yahoo! News, Wesley Barnes left a negative review about the Sea View Resort on the island of Koh Chang Island after having a not so pleasant experience. Colonel Thanapon Taemsara of Koh Chang Police said the resort’s owner has filed a lawsuit against Barnes after reading the review and claimed he ruined their reputation.
“The Sea View Resort owner filed a complaint that the defendant had posted unfair reviews on his hotel on the Tripadvisor website, ”
The review in question was written back in July and Barnes said the staff was “unfriendly” and “acted like they didn’t want anyone” on the resort property. The resort’s owner also claimed he wrote multiple reviews on different websites.

“We chose to file a complaint to serve as a deterrent, as we understood he may continue to write negative reviews week after week for the foreseeable future,”
Barnes was arrested by immigration police since he works in Thailand and returned to Koh Chang for detainment but was later released on bail. If convicted, he faces two years in prison and must pay a fine of 200,000 baht( $6,300).
