American Couple Busted For Smuggling In Israel Over Fruit Roll-Ups TikTok Trend

It is reported that due to the viral TikTok trends involving Fruit Roll-Ups, consumers overseas in Israel have had a hard time finding the fruity snacks, in order to partake in the “food hacks” popping up on TikTok.

Subsequently, two Americans found themselves entering into an international black market, but got caught trafficking over 375 pounds of Fruit Roll-Ups into Israel.

Last Monday (May 1), various Israeli media and news outlets reported that officials had busted two Americans at customs inside of the Ben Gurion International Airport, the previous weekend. Authorities said that both of the passengers apprehended each had two suitcases full of unboxed Fruit Roll-Ups.

A video ended up making its way onto social media and over on Twitter, Amy Spiro — a journalist with an Israel media company, The Times of Israel — uploaded a video showing officers at the airport sifting through at least three suitcases, that were busting at the seams with the individually wrapped Fruit Roll-Ups snacks.

While uploading the video to her Twitter, Spiro wrote, “An American couple was caught trying to smuggle 375 POUNDS of Fruit Roll Ups into the State of Israel after prices skyrocketed once the snack became part of a viral TikTok trend. Did you pack your bags yourselves and also are they full of exclusively candy?”

It is also reported that a man in the video that Spiro uploaded is being questioned about the candy and claims, in both English and Hebrew, that the hundreds of nearly thousands of Fruit Roll-Ups were to be shared with relatives in the country.

Elsewhere, another customs agent is reportedly heard asking if the owners of the suitcases even packed in any clothing — to which the man reportedly replied no, adding that he already had clothes in Israel.

Days later, another big Fruit Roll-Ups bust would be made. On Thursday (May 4), another Israel news outlet, Ynetnews, would report that a second batch of Fruit Roll-Ups had been intercepted — however, this time the smugglers used the mail system.

According to the Israeli Tax Authority — which oversees customs for the country — there were 10 shipments of Fruit Roll-Ups, from the U.S., found by the Central Customs Unit at the Parcel Mail Sorting Center in Modiin, Israel.
