Amber Heard Reacts To Johnny Depp’s Lawyer Saying She Had The “Performance Of A Lifetime” During Trial: “Says The Lawyer For The Actor Who Convinced The World He Had Scissors As Fingers”
In a sit-down interview that aired this Tuesday, Amber Heard spoke out for the first time since the verdict in her defamation trial, revealing she doesn’t “blame” the jury for siding with her ex-husband Johnny Depp but called out social media for the coverage on the big case.
She said “I actually understand. He’s a beloved character and people feel they know him. He’s a fantastic actor,” she said of Depp. She added, “I don’t care what one thinks about me or what judgments you want to make about what happened in the privacy of my own home, in my marriage, behind closed doors. I don’t presume the average person should know those things. And so I don’t take it personally,” she said. “But even somebody who is sure I’m deserving of all this hate and vitriol, even if you think that I’m lying, you still couldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation,” she continued. “You cannot tell me that you think that this has been fair.”

Recalling some moments from the trial, NBC’S Savannah Guthrie asked about her thoughts on Depp’s lawyer saying she had the performance of a lifetime and that she was acting. Heard responded: “Says the lawyer for the man who convinced the world he had scissors for fingers? …I listened to weeks of testimony [saying] I’m a terrible actress. I’m a bit confused how I could be both.”
What Happened During The Trial
As we previously reported, earlier this month, the seven-person jury reached a verdict, deciding that Depp, 59, proved Heard defamed him in her 2018 op-ed about coming forward with sexual-violence allegations. As a result, the jury awarded Depp $15 million in damages but Heard will only have to pay $10.35 million due to a Virginia law limiting punitive damages (the judge reduced the amount). Heard however, won one of the three defamation counts, and was awarded $2 million in damages.
Her lawyer has said that she can “absolutely not” pay the large sum of money to Johnny. However, it has also been said that it’s possible Johnny Depp may not pursue money awarded by Amber Heard trial verdict.
His lawyers, Camille Vasquez and Benjamin Chew, sat down for an interview on Good Morning America, exactly one week after winning their client’s defamation case. Benjamin expressed that the court case was never about winning millions if the jury were to side with him in the trial. “We obviously can’t disclose attorney-client communications, but as Mr. Depp testified, this was never about money for Mr. Depp,” he said. “This was about restoring his reputation — and he’s done that.”
Benjamin added, “We feel very confident that there are no errors that would justify any kind of successful appeal.”
