Amazon is planning to develop a vaccine to help combat the common cold. The project is being developed by a unit that works on ideas that non-related to eCommerce.

According to CNBC, Amazon is attempting to develop a vaccine to help the public combat the common cold. Due to the many strains that are a part of the common cold, it has stopped researchers from developing a vaccine or treatment that can cure the virus. The company has assigned a small team from their Grand Challenge-unit to handle the task to research more ways to handle the common cold.

Currently, it is unknown how much money Amazon is using to fund the project and the methods used to get the research started. Sources close to the project say the code name is “Project Gesundheit but insiders were told not to disclose any more details.

A representative from Amazon refused to answer any questions about the virus. The company is also working on using Alexa for health and wellness purposes. Their team called Amazon Care is creating a virtual medical clinic for employees and offers at-home medical care visits.
