Socialites, things don’t appear to be looking too good for Amanda Bynes. According to reports, the former actress has been placed on a psychiatric hold after being spotted walking naked through the streets of downtown Los Angeles. According to TMZ, the 36-year-old was seen in the early hours on Sunday morning as she brought a stranger’s car to a halt before telling them that she had suffered a psychotic episode before she took it upon herself to call law enforcement officials for help.

Upon her arrival at a nearby police station, a mental evaluation test was performed on the “Hairspray” star, which made it apparent that Bynes was unwell and needed to be placed on a 5150 hold. The Nickelodeon alum didn’t appear to have suffered any injuries and remains hospitalized until later this week, though it remains unclear at this point whether the 5150 hold, which usually only lasts for 72 hours, needs to be extended.

What’s additionally worrying about Bynes’ ordeal on Sunday is that she no longer has her parents, Lynn Organ and Rick Bynes, acting as her conservators given that the court-ordered arrangement was terminated last year.

Bynes had been in a conservatorship since 2013 following a string of public outbursts and run-ins with the law, including an incident where she allegedly tossed a bong out of her NYC apartment, struggled with substance abuse, and reportedly took a cab ride from New York to Los Angeles. Not to mention, she allegedly spent $1.2 million of her $4 million fortune in a matter of months, legal docs obtained by TMZ in 2013 revealed.

In February 2022, it was reported that both Bynes’ mom and dad were in support of ending the conservatorship because they had seen “significant progress” in controlling her mental health on her own. Bynes, who is also said to suffer from bipolar disorder, has been close to her parents throughout the arrangement, unlike Britney Spears, who has ditched her entire family for allegedly trying to keep her from being granted her freedom.

Her lawyer David A. Esquibas said at the time, “Amanda wishes to terminate her conservatorship. She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary.”

Bynes had checked into multiple mental health facilities over the years, including in 2019 when she suffered a relapse but was determined to get her career back on track. After a lengthy hiatus from Hollywood, the actress said she had hoped to make her return to the job that made her a household name, but it appears that her mental health struggles have been preventing her from doing just that.

In a previous interview with PAPER Magazine, she also voiced her struggle with depression when she began filming her 2006 film “She’s The Man,” co-starring Channing Tatum. “I went into a deep depression for 4-6 months because I didn’t like how I looked when I was a boy. I’ve never told anything that.”

In the teen comedy flick, Bynes stars as Viola, who is determined to make it onto the college soccer team by dressing up as her brother in hopes that she makes the cut.
