Prosecutors Reveal Alleged Texts Between Tyler Robinson And His Roommate

On Tuesday, prosecutors dropped excerpts of alleged text exchanges between Tyler Robinson and his roommate following the killing of conservative figure Charlie Kirk. The shocking details, included in new charging documents, shed light on what authorities describe as confessions and disturbing plans to cover his tracks.

Robinson is now facing felony aggravated murder charges and six other offenses tied to Kirk’s assassination, according to Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray. Read more about related court updates here. Prosecutors say the text messages—sent to his roommate, who they claim was also romantically linked to Robinson—were a major factor in moving forward with the case.

The messages include Robinson instructing his roommate to look under his keyboard, where a note was found saying, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.” When the roommate pressed him about whether it was a joke, Robinson allegedly confessed, “To be honest I had hoped to keep this secret till I died of old age. I am sorry to involve you.”

“I Had Enough Of His Hatred”: Motive Behind The Killing

The documents outline Robinson’s alleged motive in his own words. After being asked why, he reportedly told his roommate, “I had enough of his hatred.”

Prosecutors said Robinson planned the attack for over a week.
He admitted he left his rifle at a drop point but couldn’t retrieve it because authorities locked down the area. He texted, “I’m worried what my old man would do if I didn’t bring back grandpa’s rifle… idek if it had a serial number, but it wouldn’t trace to me. I worry about prints I had to leave it in a bush where I changed outfits.”

Robinson also bragged about engravings on the bullets, calling it a “big meme.” Utah Governor Spencer Cox later confirmed that at least four bullets linked to Kirk’s murder contained inscriptions.

Roommate’s Role And Cooperation With Police

The texts suggest Robinson pressured his roommate to destroy evidence, telling him to delete conversations and stay quiet if police approached. He wrote, “Ask for a lawyer and stay silent.”
Despite that, officials said the roommate fully cooperated with investigators. Governor Cox stated, “What we’ve learned specifically is that this person did not have any knowledge and was shocked when they found out about it,” during an NBC News interview.

Trump, Family Pressure, And Robinson’s Plan To Surrender

The texts also revealed Robinson’s tense relationship with his father, allegedly noting that since Donald Trump became president, his dad had become “diehard MAGA.”

Robinson claimed his father demanded pictures of the rifle, saying, “He says grandpa wants to know who has what, the feds released a photo of the rifle, and it’s very unique.”
Robinson then appeared resigned to his fate, texting, “I’m gonna turn myself in willingly, one of my neighbors here is a deputy for the sheriff. You’re all I worry about, love.”
