Former boxing champion Adrien Broner was handcuffed and briefly detained by police in Beverly Hills over the weekend.
According to law enforcement sources who spoke with TMZ, Broner was stopped Sunday evening as officers investigated a large gathering in a residential area. Authorities said the former boxer was detained during the traffic stop but was later released at the scene. No citation was issued.
Video circulating on social media appears to show Broner being escorted in handcuffs through the Beverly Hills business district. In the footage, an officer walks Broner past a crowd before placing him, with his hands cuffed behind his back, into the rear of a police vehicle.
The circumstances surrounding the gathering and the reason officers decided to detain Broner remain unclear. Authorities have not announced that he was arrested or charged in connection with the incident.
Broner, who later became known for his online streaming career, has had multiple previous encounters with law enforcement. Over the years, he has faced allegations and arrests involving criminal trespass, driving under the influence, sexual battery, sexual assault, and armed robbery.
The latest incident adds to a long list of controversies surrounding the Cincinnati native, who was once regarded as one of boxing’s brightest stars. Broner won world titles in multiple weight classes and built a reputation for his outspoken personality both inside and outside the ring.
In recent years, however, he has shifted much of his attention toward social media and livestreaming. He regularly interacts with fans online and discusses boxing, entertainment, and his personal life.
Broner has not publicly commented on the Beverly Hills detention. No criminal charges have been reported in connection with the traffic stop.
