ABC is apologizing for paying tribute to the wrong Migos member during the network’s annual “The Year: 2022” news special — following online criticism.
The program aired Monday, Dec. 26 and was hosted by well-respected journalist Robin Roberts. While recapping the year’s biggest moments in news, music, politics and pop culture, the “In Memoriam” segment honoring notable figures showed rapper Quavo instead of Takeoff.
Fans were quick to notice the big mistake and reacted online. One said, “disrespectful af ABC for showing a photo of Quavo instead of Takeoff…” Another said, “Hey ABC, this isn’t the rapper, Takeoff, that was killed in 2022. The photo you used is of another rapper… QuavoStuntin…who is still alive. Same rap group, different Black man.” A third added, “Wow ABC got Takeoff picture Completely wrong on the people that we lost in 2022. That’s not Takeoff & put QuavoStuntin instead. Respect him & his legacy. We lost him too soon. #TheYear #longliveTakeoff.” The network is now apologizing from one of their verified Twitter accounts:

More On What Happened To Takeoff
Takeoff, who was one-third of the platinum-selling rap group Migos, was shot and killed last month in Houston, Texas.
Police got an alert of a shooting and arrived at 810 Billiards & Bowling, where officers said TakeOff was at a private party. After it wrapped, there was a crowd of about 40 people outside of the business where an argument ensued which led to gunfire. Sadly, bullets struck the rapper, killing him. A 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were also hurt in the shooting but had no-life threatening injuries.
Takeoff was just 28-years-old.
More Details On His Alleged Killer
Patrick Clark has been arrested and charged for the murder of Takeoff. Earlier this week,
Judge Josh Hill decided during a bond reduction hearing on Wednesday morning to have his $1M bond remain at that price.
It was lowered from $2M and his legal team wanted it to be dropped to $300K. However, the judge believes he’s a flight risk since he was arrested with his passport and a Mexico it itinerary.
