Barry Hankinson is reportedly relaunching and rebranding his label, Blackground Records, as he introduces a new artist in Atlanta.

The news was revealed earlier this afternoon when Hankerson was filming a video shoot for Blackground 2.0’s new artist, Autumn Marini. In an exclusive with The Shade Room, Hankerson said he moved the label to Atlanta and met several artists who wanted to release their music but didn’t know where to begin. Their drive inspired him to relaunch Blackground Records after a 10-year plus hiatus.

“It’s a good time to promote young talent”, he told the outlet. Hankerson also added that Marini is very original and he couldn’t resist working with her after hearing her music.
“She’s beautiful, she writes her own songs. I couldn’t resist working with her. I couldn’t resist working for her. She’s totally her own artist. She’s very original.”

Hankerson is known for launching the music careers of Jojo, Tank, Aaliyah, and several others. However, he has experienced controversy within the past years for not releasing Aaliyah’s music and the other artists listed on streaming platforms.
