Student Given Probationary Sentence After Listing Black Classmate On Craigslist As ‘Slave For Sale’
A student in Illinois has been given a probationary sentence for putting an ad on Craigslist offering his Black classmate as a “slave for sale.”

DuPage County state attorneys office released a statement saying the unnamed male student will face a two year probationary sentence and will also serve 100 hours of community service.

“Hate crimes have no place in a civilized society and will not be tolerated, regardless of the accused’s age,” DuPage County State Attorney Robert Berlin shared in the press statement.
The statement reveals that the student pleaded guilty to two counts of a felony hate crime and also one count of disorderly conduct on September 1.
Neither of the students names were released to the press, but it has been told the student who made the craigslist ad is a 14-year-old white freshman who snuck a picture of his classmate while they were at lunch.

Chicago news interviewed the black students mother and she explained that her son and the student “use to be friends” until the white student started making jokes about him and saying things like “Shut up, slave.”
