Man Allegedly Fakes Medical Emergency to Skip $63 Red Lobster Tab, Gets Arrested Instead

Somebody out here really looked at a $63 Red Lobster check and decided the best move was to dial 911. Over some shrimp!

Abdul Rasheed, a 26-year-old from Douglasville, Georgia, is now facing a pile of criminal charges after cops say he called 911 on Sept. 24 from the Red Lobster on Highway 5 in hopes of dodging the bill. Officers rolled up expecting a real emergency and, according to police, found Rasheed was OK, but he was hoping to avoid his $63 bill…

Law enforcement sources say the man had already put away a full meal before the check hit the table. When the bill came, it left a bad taste in his mouth, and he cooked up a scheme to get a free meal. The plan, allegedly, was to call 911 and pretend he was sick while requesting medical attention.

The idea seems to have been that an ambulance run would pull him out the door before the server could say “will that be cash or card?” Instead, the folks who showed up weren’t buying it. Instead of an ambulance trip, Rasheed got an exclusive ride in the back of a cop car.

The plot twist is that the check he was running from may be the cheapest part of this whole situation. Police arrested Rasheed and charged him with theft of services, unlawful conduct during a 911 call and making a false report. He was booked into the Douglas County Jail.

According to Globe, a judge set Rasheed’s bond at $1,500 for the theft of service charge and $3,000 for the unlawful conduct during a 9-1-1 call charge, so he’s looking at $4,500 to avoid paying a $63 bill at Red Lobster. That’s about 71 times the price of the meal. Records show he is still being held in custody at the Douglas County Jail.
