Saturday Night Live star Michael Che is finally speaking on his headline-making confrontation with Kanye West after a clip from the rapper’s new documentary, In Whose’s Name, went viral on social media.
The Confrontation
During Thursday’s episode of SiriusXM’s The Bonfire, Che explained how he confronted West backstage over comments West made about Black comedians, such as Bill Cosby, being mocked. According to TOO FAB, West also accused the SNL cast of bullying him during a 2018 episode.
Che said he called West “foul” for making those remarks during the live taping.
Che’s Reaction To The Documentary
Che admitted he was uneasy about watching the footage of their interaction. “I was terrified to look at the footage and believed that West was not being himself. He’d been at the show a million times. So it seemed like he was kind of not behaving like himself,” he explained.
He added that the cast worked hard to make the episode a success, which is why he was shocked at West’s accusations. “We were trying very hard. And then when that happened, and he made it seem like we was bullying him, and I was like, ‘Why would you say that?’ Like, what happened that you felt that way?”
Kanye’s Apology
Despite the rocky exchange, Che revealed that West apologized when they crossed paths again a year later. “And I hadn’t seen him in years. I didn’t even know if he remembered that that happened because he was saying so much s–t. And he was like, ‘I owe you an apology.’ And we talked, and I never brought it up again,” Che said.
