The incident occurred in April 2019 and at the time, police alleged that the Chicago woman, identified as 51-year-old Clarisa Figueroa, had killed 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez and cut her baby boy, Yovanny Jadiel Lopez, from her womb. At the time, authorities alleged that Figueroa committed the crime after losing her adult son to natural causes. They said she was eager to raise another child, despite having her fallopian tubes tied.

Former Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson previously stated that the Chicago woman, along with her daughter Desiree Figueroa, now 29, planned to kill the pregnant teen and “raise the child as their own,” after Clarisa allegedly faked a pregnancy, then called 911 on April 23, 2019, claiming she’d just delivered a boy who was struggling to breathe.

When investigators conducted their probe, they determined that the Chicago woman showed zero signs of having delivered a baby and soon they discovered the body of the victim in a garbage can in the the Figueroas’ front yard. Following their investigation, the Chicago woman and her daughter Desiree were both arrested and charged with first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated battery after killing the teen.

In June 2019, the baby boy died in his father Yovany Lopez‘s arms, after spending his short life on support machines with severe brain damage. The following month, the mother and daughter duo were each then hit with another murder count after the baby boy died at 51 days old. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the baby’s cause of death was due to lack of oxygen and blood to his brain and a prolapse of the umbilical cord and placenta due to a maternal assault and demise.

It was alleged that the duo posted in a Facebook group for young mothers, claiming they were giving away clothes and a stroller. When the pregnant teen arrived at their home, the mother and daughter allegedly strangled the teen with a cable before cutting the baby from her womb. In addition to the mother and daughter duo being arrested and charged, the daughter’s boyfriend Piotr Bobak, now 44, was also charged for his alleged involvement.

According to CBS News, Bobak was sentenced to four years in prison but was released last year after being given credit for the 3 years and nearly 8 months he’d already spent in custody. He pled guilty to one count of obstruction of justice. Meanwhile, about six months after the teen’s murder, Bobak’s girlfriend, Desiree, gave birth to her own baby while behind bars.

Since pleading guilty to first-degree murder, the Chicago woman, Clarisa Figueroa, has now been sentenced to 50 years in prison for killing the pregnant teen and cutting her baby from her womb. On Tuesday (April 16), the judge told her that she would be serving her entire sentence and would not receive early release on parole, to which she acknowledged with a verbal “Yes.”
