The daughter of Tweet, who famously sings 2002’s sexy smash “Oops (Oh My),” reveals that she learned her mother was famous while watching the sultry song debut on the iconic BET video countdown show ‘106 & Park.’ She said, “I was like, ‘Excuse Me?'”

Shenice Johnson, the daughter of early 2000s R&B songstress Tweet, is recalling the exact moment when she discovered that her mother was famous. Recently, Tweet, born Charlene Keys, and her daughter Shenice made an appearance on an episode of the ‘We Sound Crazy‘ podcast.
During their conversation, Tweet’s daughter remembered the surprising way she learned of her mother’s fame. She said, “I don’t have much memory of the Missy [Elliott] stuff ‘cause she didn’t tell us. So I didn’t know she went off and went on tour with Missy. I found out my mom was Tweet [while] doing my algebra homework and ‘106 & Park’ was like ‘New joint of the day: Tweet, ‘Oops (Oh My),” and I was like, ‘Excuse me?’ It literally was like, ‘What in the world, Mom? I just saw your video.'”
Tweet chimed in and said, “I didn’t know it was gonna pop off that quick like that. It really happened fast.” Shenice added, “And then our lives changed after that.”
Included in the changes around her were Shenice’s friends. She said despite all of her mother’s sudden success from her hot new single, which was produced by Timbaland and featuring Missy Elliott, she wasn’t taken out of her public school in Panama City, Florida. Subsequently, she had to endure all of her peers changing up on her.

She said, “I had one girl throw gum in my hair and it was just like ‘You think you’re all that,’ it was a lot of that and on the flip side there was a lot of leeches. To this day, my relationships are very conditional because I still feel like a lot of people wanted to be associated with me based on who I was connected to.”
She continued, “It was really hard to decipher who was authentic and who was just in it for the ride. Because she was that mom. Limos picking us up from school … It was a culture shock for me, to see your mom going from being depressed to being a superstar, it had a trickle effect on the whole family.”
As mentioned, Tweet’s “Oops (Oh My)” was a smash. The single achieved commercial success and peaked at No on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. On November 29, 2023, the song was officially certified Gold by the Record Industry Association of America (RIAA), 21 years after its debut.
