While on Cloud 9 from all of her ‘Color Purple‘ press and being nominated for her first Golden Globe, Fantasia Barrino is now being dragged back down to Earth as she calls out Airbnb for allegedly being racially profiled and kicked out of a North Carolina lake house she rented for her son’s birthday.
On Sunday (December 17), the 39-year-old singer called out her Airbnb host and the company in totality after the alleged racial incident during her son’s birthday celebrations.
Taking to her official account on X (formerly Twitter), Fantasia began, “My stomach is so uneasy this morning as I’m riding back to my home in the cold and rain. I don’t say much when people do me wrong, but I can’t stay quiet on how my family and I were just treated from a host with @Airbnb @airbnbhelp trying to kick my kids and I out at 12:00 midnight.”
Fantasia continued to reveal, “The host accused us of having a party with loud noises outdoors because they saw balloons being dropped off and a game truck with no generator in the early part of the day. The amount of guests we reserved for are the amount of guest who stayed the night. They never said we weren’t allowed to have any company over!!”
The new Golden Globe nominee added, “It’s evident from the sayings on the wall to the outdoor fire pit/jacuzzi and a well-equipped game room in the garage/poker table that people Hosts parties and/or gatherings here on the lake often as there were weights with balloon ribbon left in the garage from a previous party at the house. It’s evident to me this was racial profiling and the treatment we received was due to the color of our skin. I wanted my son to enjoy his friends (10-12) year old and make him feel special as I have been traveling for the last 35+ days promoting a movie I starred in. This time, I dare not stay quiet.”
Responding to the singer’s post, a representative on the Airbnb Help page on X wrote, “Hi Fantasia, Airbnb does not condone discrimination in any way. You can view our Nondiscrimination Policy here: air.do/6014RrtEK Please send us a DM with the email address connected to your booking, so our team can follow up. Thank you.”
Fantasia also went live and spoke about the incident and revealed that her son’s birthday was on December 13 and after asking him what he wanted to do for his big day, he opted for a family and friends getaway at a house on a lake.
The singer revealed all of the fun games and amenities at the house and noted that a lake was across the street, making the house a perfect place for her son’s birthday. She explained that while she had party and event companies arriving at the house to set up decorations, the neighbors appeared to have gotten upset with Fantasia’s family for making noise.
Fantasia noted that the noise level wasn’t outrageous and that the children were all in bed by 9 p.m. However, Fantasia and her family received a phone call from the Airbnb host claiming they received calls about their noise level, that there was a party bus at the home, and that there was footage taken proving all of this. Fantasia said she asked for the videos and other evidence to be sent because the complaints were unsubstantiated.
Fantasia then fully called it out for what she believed it was and said, “It felt like a Black thing. I came home to North Carolina, out to the lake. And all of the houses, this house sits in the middle and there’s like three houses behind it where they can just and look at us. It feels like a colored thing. I’m being honest.”
She continued to explain that she and her family could have stayed at their own home rather than be racially profiled and kicked out. She detailed, “They made us get up at 6 in the morning and told us to get all these kids up and get out. They told us to get out last night. My stomach literally hurts.”

We as in my family are not celebrities. My niece rented an Airbnb for a week here in Kansas City, owned by Hispanics. Next door neighbors were Hispanics. We were having a family weekend picnic @ a nearby park. The neighbors were watching our family at the Airbnb. We were very quiet, no music being played at all! We were not loud as well!!!The owners were called by the next door neighbors and said they did not feel safe because of the cars that were parked @ the Airbnb They even wanted her to wash everything as far as sheets and towels before she left. My niece paid a good amount of money for this Airbnb!!!It was racially motivated!!!

Every Airbnb that we have stayed at has always said no parties. Maybe she should read the rental agreement again.
Absolutely! People many times do not read the fine print and just because you are a celebrity doesn’t make it ok for you to not follow the rules. I didn’t even know Fantasia was still doing anything!
OMG you sound ridiculous! Both of you in fact. Fantasia is doing A LOT in her fabulous and successful life, and what does that have to do with her experience with this AirBNB? NONE of us know the details of her rental agreement. MF’s always got something to say about ish they know nothing about.

She said every guest in attendance was listed on the reservation. It was her son’s birthday but there was no DJ or music. They were enjoying the amenities at the home—like an outside firepit—when the police were called.

you sound utterly and absolutely ridiculous…..what does this obvious mistreatment have to do with her movie? I’m also sure that she doesn’t want support from anyone with your limited mental abilities nor does she need it. From what you’ve presented, you probably wouldn’t even understand the concept of the movie. Another thing, what does speaking out about an injustice have to do with a cry baby. You must be of the same race as the ones who racially profiled her and her family.
I think there are a lot of assumptions being made about what their rental agreement was, based on what another Airbnb rental agreement might be. What I don’t understand is why the host was so quick to ask them to pack up and leave without providing the so-called proof they supposedly had. Now they want them to DM their booking information so their team can look into the matter. I think they were surrounded by people who saw a bunch of kids having fun and just couldn’t mind their own business.

I used to own a lake house up in the hills. Noise is magnified in these communities and hearing unfamiliar voices after dark can be jarring. Some families only used their lake house a few times a year and would bring their 4-wheelers and loud kids and let them tear up our roads, let their dogs run loose, then drink around the fire until all hours, and get louder and louder not realizing they were disturbing full time residents. The guests were there to party, the rest of us had to work the next day.
While racism is very real, and I consider myself an accomplice, I’d be unhappy with a neighbor renting out their house to anyone as an Air B&B, especially if it were going to involve a party of any kind.
