Celine Dion’s battle with Stiff-Person Syndrome has continued to affect the singer’s daily life as her sister revealed that the singer has lost control of her muscles.

Claudette Dion said the disease is causing her sister to experience painful muscle spasms, and it could take a while before Celine can start performing again, according to TMZ. Celine Dion was diagnosed with the rare neurological disorder last December, and Claudette says it breaks her heart to see her sister go through this.

“She’s working hard, but she doesn’t have control over her muscles. What breaks my heart is that she’s always been disciplined. She’s always worked hard. Our mother always told her, ‘You’re going to do it well, you’re going to do it properly.’”

The disease also caused Celine to cancel her Courage world tour, and her goal is to return to the stage. Stiff person syndrome (SPS) is a rare, chronic autoimmune neurological disorder that affects the central nervous system, particularly the way it communicates with muscles. It’s characterized by progressive muscle stiffness and rigidity, often accompanied by painful spasms triggered by various factors like noise, touch, or even emotional distress.

Celine made her first public appearance in four years at a hockey game in Las Vegas. She also informed her fans about her medical diagnosis in an Instagram video last year, where she said she wasn’t ready to open up about her condition.

“Unfortunately, these [muscle] spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”

Fans also expressed their well wishes for the singer and hoped she can recover from the rare disease.
