Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and now Twitter (X) has once again made headlines with his latest announcement regarding the platform. In a recent statement, Musk revealed that audio and video calls will soon be introduced.
Now is this an exciting development? Or another unnecessary new feature that no one really asked for? Well, with the addition of audio and video calls, users will have even more ways to connect and engage with one another in real time.
Musk’s announcement has sparked mixed reactions with some Twitter users expressing how eager they are to explore this new feature as they believe audio and video calls will undoubtedly enhance the overall user experience on the platform, allowing for more dynamic and interactive conversations. Meanwhile, others think it’s simply pointless.

Musk made the big announcement on Thursday. While doing that, he also listed some of the feature’s traits: It will work on iOS, Android, Mac, and PC, he wrote, and no phone number will be needed.
“Video & audio calls coming to X:
– Works on iOS, Android, Mac & PC
– No phone number needed
– X is the effective global address book,” the tweet read. Now, Musk didn’t say anything about when the feature might launch. However, he just noted that it’s “coming.”
This is just one of many changes Elon Musk has made since taking over the platform. Just recently the CEO announced that the block feature will no longer exist. Musk claims the feature “makes no sense.”
He initially tweeted on Friday, “Is there ever a reason to block vs. mute someone? Give your reasons. Clearly, folks didn’t respond fast enough as he then tweeted, “Block is going to be deleted as a “feature”, except for DMs.” He added, “It makes no sense.”
Of course, this didn’t get the reaction he was hoping for as it rubbed some folks the wrong way. As many are aware, the block feature serves as a vital empowerment tool, granting users the ability to maintain control over their virtual surroundings.
As previously mentioned, by blocking someone, users can effectively prevent unwanted interactions, harassment, or abusive behavior. In an era where online interactions can sometimes be overwhelming, the block feature acts as a shield against negativity. It helps users protect their mental well-being by eliminating sources of distress, such as cyberbullying, hate speech, or offensive content. By blocking individuals who engage in harmful behavior, users can create a safe and positive digital environment for themselves.
While that has yet to be implemented, we’re sure Elon Musk has more new things that are up his sleeve…
