While celebrating Hip-Hop’s anniversary with the rest of us, the “Crank Dat” rapper is demanding that we sing him his praises for making history within the genre. He claims he created a new wave versus killing off the genre.

Taking to his official account on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the 33-year-old rapper said, “When I came in the game they said I killed hip hop. But really, I birthed the new wave of hip hop with internet/streaming. Ahead of my time.”

The rapper continued to speak on how many of the rappers who have come after him have all followed his blueprint in several ways since he came out in the late 2000s. Soulja said, “Now everyone vlogs their career like me. Now everyone uploads their music to the internet. Now everyone goes live for their fans. I started it. Thank me or not. Flowers/Credit or not.”

If you need a refresher, the world fast came to learn SB when he dropped his debut single “Crank Dat” in the fall of 2007. He took over mainstream music with the dance-heavy single. He peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven non-consecutive weeks. After that, Big Draco went on a hit streak and solidified his popularity in Hip-Hop and on the Billboard charts.

Validating the rapper’s comments, users agreed. One X user wrote, “[You’re] the most hated rapper in the game. Tried to say you were a one-hit wonder. But big bro came with hit after hit!” Another person wrote, “Nobody wouldn’t be on YouTube with a music career if it wasn’t for you gang.”

A third person said, “You started the new trend of using social media to build your buzz and getting a chance at signing a deal. I stamp that.” Another person said, “I can truly say you didn’t ruin [Hip-Hop], you just brought a new style people weren’t used to, that’s all. Now majority of these new rappers today I believe ruined Hip-Hop. It just doesn’t have that same feel anymore sadly and a lot of music these days sounds too repetitive.”
