Vivica A. Fox is speaking out about SZA‘s “Kill Bill’ music video, where she was casted, but only after 5 days of knowing about the role. Being so, she believes that the execs behind the scenes really “wanted Uma Thurman,” her co-star in the film the video was based off.
While speaking with AV Club, Fox recalled working with SZA and being on set of the music video for her hit song, again which was based upon Quentin Tarantino‘s 2003 film, which featured a second volume in 2004, also starring Vivica A. Fox and Uma Thurman.
The 58-year-old actor and TV personality revealed that she nearly lost the role in SZA’s video to her 53-year-old counterpart, admitting, “When I got it, I was surprised, to be honest with you. ‘Cause they called, took them five days to finally decide that they were gonna hire me, ’cause I think they wanted Uma Thurman. [laughs] Which is cool, I mean, it is her franchise — as well as mine..”

Fox added, “But when you think about it, it’s a little bit more fitting for SZA and Vivica to be together because we’re both African-American women and when it came out, people just ran with it. They were like, ‘Oh man they’re going to make ‘Kill Bill 3,’ finally.’ Because people have been waiting for ‘Kill Bill 3’ for such a long time and see my daughter get revenge on Uma.”
Later in the interview, Fox also clarified some things about a comment she made back in 2020, when she said she wanted Zendaya to play the role of her daughter in the third volume of the ‘Kill Bill‘ movie series. At the time, Fox told Express that she was interested in the now-26-year-old actor playing her daughter.

Clearing things up, Fox said, “I was doing an interview, and a gentleman said, ‘Who would you like to play your daughter?’ And I said, ‘Ambrosia [Kelley], the young lady that played my daughter in Kill Bill.’ And they’re like, ‘No, what if the studio wanted someone with a name?’ And I said, ‘Zendaya.’ And everybody’s like, ‘Vivica Fox wants to cast Zendaya as her daughter.’”
In her original interview, Fox did uplift Kelley saying, “I think they should go after the young girl who did it, Ambrosia Kelley. She’s beautiful; I hope she’s still acting.” However, if the casting was up to her, she would’ve picked Zendaya. She said, “If not, if I could have my dream daughter? Zendaya. She’s tall; she’s got those long legs; she would kick ass!”
Catching wind of the comment, Zendaya, at the time, said, “I was quite honored that she would say that. Obviously, she’s incredible, and I’m very flattered that she would think of me. You know, it’s just an idea. The internet kinda takes things and run with it.”
