The incident occurred Friday during classes at Antioch High School. According to the New York Post, the female student allegedly used her phone for “texting and Googling answers for her schoolwork,” said Reddit user @Lazy_Mouse3803. The post also said the same teacher was attacked two months ago for taking a student’s phone during a test.

“Girl pepper sprays teacher because he took her from her in Antioch, TN. This same teacher two months ago got punched in the face by a different student for taking a kid’s phone [for] cheating on a test with it,” the post caption reads. The video shows other students laughing and joking before following the female student and teacher into the hallway, where she attempts to get the phone.

The teacher could be heard explaining to someone else that the female student just pepper-sprayed him, and she followed him out of the classroom and then pepper-sprayed him for the second time, causing him to yell and fall to his knees. Another adult intervenes and attempts to de-escalate the situation, but the student still demands that her phone be returned.

After the viral video on Twitter, various debates defended the student’s actions or felt sorry for the teacher. One user wrote, “Teachers need to stop taking things they don’t pay for away from kids if they ain’t give it to them, all they have to do is call a dean or principal and get the child removed from the class teachers be tryna flex they muscle a little too much IMO.”

Another wrote, “Teacher here. If we call an administrator for everything, we will be accused of not having classroom management, which could result in us being written up and having bad evaluations.”
