The 22-year-old conjoined twins share a torso and a reproductive system but live full lives, from discussing their dating and friendship lives to driving. Carmen and Lupita Andrade came from Mexico to the United States when they were two years old. They told TODAY about what it’s like when one of their sisters goes out on a date and how they sometimes get on each other’s nerves.

Even though they were questioned about surgical possibilities, they thought it was unsafe because they shared too many internal organs and bone bones. ‘If we underwent separation surgery, either one of us would die, both of us would die, or we’d end up in the intensive care unit and never come out,’ they explained. Carmen revealed that she received messages from guys with fetishes after they discovered she was a conjoined twin, but she found love with her partner Daniel after meeting him on Hinge.

‘I knew right off the bat that Daniel was different from the others because he didn’t lead with a question about my condition,’ she gushed. We’ve been together for two and a half years, and we’ve discussed getting engaged, but we want to live together first.’

The sisters also work on compromises regarding Carmen’s dating life, and Carmen says Daniel and Lupita get along very well. She added that she asked Lupita what she wanted to do before going on a date to avoid boredom. Other outlets have reported that Carmen and Daniel allegedly do not have sex.

Both work in the veterinary field but have different career goals as Lupita wants to be a veterinary technician while Carmen wants to be a veterinary nurse.  Although they live very fulfilling lives, they still face disgusting questions from strangers on social media and recall when a man recorded them in a store while he was with his daughter.

‘We were recently in a store, and I felt a weird stomach drop – and I knew it was coming from my sister. A man was pretending to film his daughter, but he was really filming us. I didn’t notice, but Lupita did. She’s way more observant. I can feel when Carmen is anxious or about to cry. It’s that same stomach drop.’

The sisters also deal with endometriosis and cannot have children and take hormone blockers to prevent them from menstruating. They also hope their story can inspire others and be more compassionate towards people with disabilities.

‘We get a lot of questions about sex, and how we go to the bathroom and stuff like that. But you have to remember: We’re not just conjoined twins; we’re people.’
