The tourist, only identified as Mike, told CNN he took a swan dive off the platform during a trip to Pattaya in January. The bungee jump was over a body of water, but the cord snapped before Mike made it down to the bottom, and he said it slammed him into the water. However, he sustained minor injuries but said it felt like someone “just beat him up real bad.”

“I landed on my left side, so the injuries were more serious. It was as if someone just beat me up real bad,” he explained. The incident occurred at the Chantiai Thappraya Safari and Adventure Park, which offers activities such as ziplining and live-round shooting.

A video of Mike’s incident went viral on social media, and he concealed his last name to prevent online harassment. He said he initially went to the park to try out the firing range but was dared by his friends to try bungee jumping.

“It was really high so I closed my eyes. I planned to open my eyes again when I bounced back up. I realized the cord had snapped when I opened my eyes and I was surrounded by water. If the person doesn’t know how to swim, he or she will be in big trouble,”

The park’s founder Nithit Intim said in a statement that staff managed to help Mike out of the water, and he was immediately transported to a local hospital for his injuries.

“After the cord was broken, our staff got him out of the water immediately, and asked him if he was okay. He said he felt bruised. So we took him to the hospital. Our staff explained that if any mishap happens or any accident takes place, our company will compensate medical bills. But the client can’t demand for compensation on other kind of expenses,”

Mike also signed a liability waiver before the bungee jump, but the park issued him a full refund for the incident.

Social Media users said Mike was lucky to survive the incident as things could’ve been more serious if the water wasn’t underneath him.
