A 22-year-old woman named Eleanor Williams has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison after being caught beating her own face with a hammer, then blaming it on an Asian grooming gang.

According to DailyMail, Williams, a fantasist, was found guilty of lying about three men raping, trafficking and abusing her. Williams’ lies reportedly caused the men to attempt suicide.
It is reported that Williams compiled and shared her accusations in a May 2020 Facebook post, where she included graphic images of her injuries she claimed the men caused. the post has been shared over 100,000 times, sparked national outrage, and even led to violent racial protests in her hometown of Barrow-in-Furness, England.
One of the men accused, business owner Mohammed Ramzan, told the court that his life turned into “hell on Earth” after Williams’ false accusations. Breaking down into tears, he said that two weeks after he was arrested, he attempted to take his own life.
He explained, “I still bear the scars to this day.” In addition to being jailed, and attempting suicide, Ramzan’s property and businesses were attacked in the racial protests, sparked by Williams’ post.
He said, “We had messages like people are going to rape my wife in front of me. From Islamophobia, to racism, to just general hate … people wishing me dead. My children had fire extinguishers, baseball bats next to their beds for their safety because we had threats. People were going to burn the shops down, burn us down.
We had rental properties in town smashed in. Is that the type of persecution that goes on today in a town where there’s only a handful of Asians, and everybody knows these Asians? They’ve all dealt with me. I’ve fed them all because I’ve been in the food industry. I’ve fed them all, from the children to the adults to the grandparents… and they turned on me.”

Williams’ claims would eventually be debunked by surveillance footage. Video pulled from a store called Tesco would show Williams purchasing a hammer, that she later used to harm herself.
She also bought a packet of Pot Noodles, which she ate in a hotel during the same time she claimed to have been held captive by an Asian grooming gang.
At Williams’ sentencing, Judge Robert Altham said that there was “no explanation” for her lies, and that she showed “no significant sign of remorse.”
After criticizing Williams, Judge Altham went on to admit that he did not believe she was racially motivated, as she had decided to accuse Asian men and white men, to “copy other cases of national prominence.” Judge Altham added, “Unless and until the defendant chooses to say why she has told these lies we will not know.”
