The 15-year-old attempted to carjack a grandmother’s vehicle as she drove to chemotherapy last Friday. Although she did not reveal her identity to WJLA, she did tell the news outlet that the suspect told her to ‘give me your keys; I got a gun’ to which she replied, “‘baby, you better shoot me because you’re not taking my car.'” Moments later, the boy pushed her against the vehicle, and she fought him back before calling for help.

“He pushed me to the door, and I got up, and I grabbed him and was hitting his ass, and hitting him and fighting him, and I said, ‘you not going to take my car, youngin,'” she exclaimed. Several neighbors ran outside to help after hearing her cries for help. According to authorities, the attempted carjacking occurred on 22nd Street, and the teen was arrested after being transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Grandma also said residents in the neighborhood didn’t know who the boy was and was stunned that he wasn’t severely hurt after her neighbors jumped him.

“And they saidit’s a wonder he wasn’t dead,” she said. “On 22nd Street? He must didn’t know where he was. Nobody has seen this boy before,”

Social media also responded to the carjacking and commended the woman’s neighbors for stepping in and helping her. One user wrote, “Baby, Southeast is different, pretty much on any number street you’re going to find the action you are looking for. Don’t play on 22 is a rule.

The Maryland Police Department said there had been 82 carjackings since the beginning of this year.

“Your car is replaceable, but you’re not. Carjacking is a crime of violence that can be particularly scary. Knowing how to respond in a situation may mean the difference between serious injury or death and walking away unscathed. The crime of “carjacking” — which is stealing a car by force — captures headlines across the country.  Statistically speaking, however, your chances of being a victim of carjacking are very slim, and taking preventive measures can reduce that risk even more.”

It is currently unknown about the teen’s charges and whether he will appear in court for the carjacking.
