Billie Eilish is getting candid in her latest interview with Vogue as she opened up to the magazine about the struggles she faced with her body as a teenager. The 21-year-old expressed how she began to hate herself because of her appearance during those difficult puberty years. And though Eilish has overcome the dark thoughts she was faced with at the time, getting her mental health back on track was easier said than done.

“Going through my teenage years of hating myself and all that stupid s—t, a lot of it came from my anger toward my body, and how mad I was at how much pain it’s caused me, and how much I’ve lost because of things that happened to it,” the “Bad Guy” chart-topper said, referring to a growth plate injury back in 2016.

“I felt like my body was gaslighting me for years.” The Grammy winner said that while she would spend years trying to rewire her way of thinking when it came to her appearance, she learned to accept that, “My body is actually me. And it’s not out to get me.”

During her rise to fame, many people would often wonder why Eilish would often sport baggy clothes in not only her music videos but also red carpet appearances. In May 2019, however, Eilish explained that the reason why she had started wearing apparel several sizes bigger than her was to avoid being sexualized for her figure.

In a society now where everybody seems to be flaunting their BBLs on Instagram, the Los Angeles native said she had never wanted people to make comments about her body. If she wore clothes that were revealing, there’d be comments about whether she’s “slim-thick” or has a “flat a**,” and that’s not something Eilish deemed healthy for anyone’s mindset.

“That’s why I wear big, baggy clothes,” she retorted. “Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath. Nobody can be like, ‘she’s slim-thick,’ ‘she’s not slim-thick,’ ‘she’s got a flat *ss,’ ‘she’s got a fat *ss.’ No one can say any of that because they don’t know.”
