The incident occurred on September 17 in Weld County near Highway 85 and County 38 after a Platteville police officer arrested a woman over an alleged road rage incident involving a gun. Two Fort Lupton officers arrived at the scene after receiving a call about the arrest. As reported by CPR, the two officers placed Yareni Rios-Gonzalez,20, in the back of the Platteville police vehicle illegally parked on railroad tracks. While officers searched through Gonzalez’s pickup truck, a train could be heard blowing its horn and hitting the patrol car.
Rios-Gonzalez was handcuffed at the crash, and CBI investigators said she suffered serious injuries, including a fractured sternum and broken ribs.
“Officers cleared the suspect vehicle to determine if anyone else was in the vehicle. Within a matter of seconds, the Platteville’s police vehicle, which contained the female detainee, was struck by a northbound train. Fort Lupton Officers immediately summoned medical assistance and began life-sustaining measures.” the Fort Lupton Police Department said in a statement.

A statement from Platteville police chief Carl Dwyer said the officer involved in the arrest was placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation is underway.
Social media reacts to the video, and calls the police negligent for failing to help Gonzalez.
As the video is making its rounds on the internet, the disturbing clip has prompted outrage online as it clearly shows the three officers walking away and abandoning the vehicle.
This is completely insane.
Some Colorado Supercop decides to pull over someone, arrest them and throw them into the back of his car– which is parked on train tracks. Guess what happens next.
The arrogance and stupidity on display here is nauseating. https://t.co/aOivO6lnE3— Skot Christopherson (@SkotChristopher) September 24, 2022
Parking on train tracks, shooting into crowds, killing Black boys like Elijah, Colorado police officers are 🗑

Shout out to the Platteville & Fort Lupton Colorado police officers who used their power to go above & beyond the call by ensuring Rios-Gonzalez got hit by a train.

Every officer involved in that train “accident”, needs to be fired and charged. But it’s Colorado so they likely won’t. Another state to avoid added to the list.
