According to the course catalog on the official school website, the 3-credit humanities course is called “HUM 365 Angry White Male Studies.”
The class is described as: “a course that charts the rise of the ‘angry white male’ in America and Britain since the 1950s.” Students will “explore the deeper sources of this emotional state while evaluating recent manifestations of male anger.”

The description adds, “Employing interdisciplinary perspectives, this course examines how both dominant and subordinate masculinities are represented and experienced in cultures undergoing periods of rapid change connected to modernity as well as to rights-based movements of women, people of color, homosexuals and trans individuals.”
Reportedly, the class will be taught by Christopher Forth, who is a professor of history and the Dean’s Professor of Humanities. Forth also serves in the departments of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies and American Studies. Furthermore, this is not his first time teaching such material.
It’s also reported that further questions that will be addressed in the class about angry white males will include: “Where does he come from? What’s he angry about? Is his anger misplaced? Is he blaming the right people? How long has this been going on? Is he a global phenomenon? And how do we move forward?”
Subsequently, the class has drawn copious amounts of criticism on social media and from local politicians, like Kansas Republican Congressman Ron Estes.
Representative Estes previously spoke out to condemn the course when it was first created a few years ago. Back in 2019, Estes suggested that the class could potentially violate Title IX.
While responding to an article about the initial creation of the course, Estes took to Twitter and said, “Instead of a course to unite people and empower women, KU has decided to offer a class that divides the student population and could pose a Title IX violation by creating a hostile campus environment based on gender. #ksleg.”
