Ohio Teacher Reveals He Quit Job To Work At Walmart, Which Pays $12,000 More A Year

The former teacher, identified as 28-year-old Seth Goshorn, shared a TikTok last month where he showed himself in his new blue Walmart uniform.

The text overlay on the video read, “Leaving teaching after 6 years to go be a manager at Walmart and make more not using my degree.”

Goshorn captioned the post, “It’s not even close….”

Since sharing the clip, Goshorn revealed that he earned $43,000 last year teaching in Ohio’s Stark County as a second-grade teacher.

After Goshorn went viral within the last month, he ended up doing an interview with ‘Good Morning America.’

Goshorn explains, “I absolutely don’t want this to be that I’m just trying to discourage anybody from becoming a teacher. They didn’t choose to have to work a second job that comes along with it, and that’s the thing that I would have loved to see go away.”

He continued to tell the news show, “I wouldn’t disparage anyone from becoming a teacher it’s one of the noblest professions that you can do. Think about how good our teachers could be if they just focused on teaching and not having to work a second job on weekends.”

As mentioned, Goshorn worked in education for five and a half years. First as a reading tutor, and then as a second-grade teacher.

Goshorn also says that he hopes his viral story can continue to garner attention so that a conversation can be sparked and action taken.

He hopes that the water cooler talk about the low pay that teachers get will change for the better.
