Netflix has confirmed that its biggest show, “Squid Game,” has been renewed for a second series. The record-breaking Korean survival drama, which more than 100 million users watched during its first 28 days on the platform, became such a global success that it was evident Netflix would want to bring the show back for another run.
And on Sunday, two new posts teased the return of Squid Game, with the first one featuring the infamous doll many viewers will remember from the first episode. A number two can be seen flashing in its eye, while the caption read, “On your marks. Get set. Greenlight. Squid Game continues.”

The second post included a message from the show’s director, Hwang Dong-hyuk, with its opening title reading, “A whole new round is coming.” Hwang added, “It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. As the writer, director, and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”
Following Netflix’s announcement, people reacted to the news over on Twitter, though the response seemed mixed as some pondered how the company could possibly make the second series just as good as the first. One of the common questions fans seemed to ask was, with the first season being as captivating as it was, Netflix would have to go above and beyond in order to meet fans’ high expectations if they wanted to the second series a hit.
“There are certain things that should be left imo, especially when the first is so incredible,” one concerned Twitter user wrote. “This is a perfect example of one, Joker 2 is another.” Another person echoed similar words, seemingly giving the impression they weren’t too pleased about the announcement as they tweeted, “i thought this was an imposter account. this has to a bigger joke than season one finale.”
