The family of Thandiwe Newton’s boyfriend Elijah Dias has spoken out following reports that the couple are officially dating. April appeared to have been an exhilarating month for the British actress, who was reportedly ousted from Magic Mike 3 following an alleged argument with Channing Tatum in London over the Oscars debacle concerning Will Smith and Chris Rock.
Soon after her exit, it was revealed that she had split from her husband Ol Parker and ditched the UK to be with her new man, who resides in Los Angeles. But from what’s been gathered in a recent interview with The Sun, Elijah’s family doesn’t see the relationship lasting because they think she’s “crazy as hell.” The rapper’s stepdad Jimmy Varner told the publication that while Elijah, who’s better known by his stage name Lonr, “knows what to do with an older woman,” he strongly doubts that the romance is serious.

Even the ex-husband of Elijah’s mother, Mikelyn Roderick, who is also dad to his half-sister, singer Elle Varner, weighed in with his thoughts, predicting that whatever chemistry the pair share between one another, it would more than likely never lead to marriage and having kids together. “My advice to Thandiwe is ‘go get him tiger’ if that’s what she wants,” Mikelyn chimed in. “Lord have mercy on her – and him. She looks crazy as hell to me. All the pretty ones are crazy like that. But when he’s ready to settle down and be having kids, he ain’t going to settle for her.”

Most of the family members close to Elijah are said to have found out about his relationship with Thandiwe through several news publications, indicating that the aspiring musician had made no mention of his love life to them. Last month, when the Line of Duty star was spotted kissing Elijah while strolling through the streets of Los Angeles, she had ditched her wedding ring, further implying that her marriage to her husband was indeed over.
The pair married back in 1998 and share three children: Ripley, Nico and Booker Parker. During her brief time filming scenes for Magic Mike in the UK, her behavior was described to have been quite unusual, with one source telling Page Six that her problems in her personal life appeared to have gotten the better of her during production.
“Thandiwe had been acting strange on set, she has been very highly strung. Her apparent breakdown caused so much disruption, it became clear she couldn’t play the role,” the insider said. “There is a lot going on in her personal life, she and her husband have separated. She seemed so stressed, she even brought her two pet rabbits to her hotel for emotional support.”
It’s unclear what Thandiwe plans to do next, but she certainly does seem to enjoy being in Elijah’s company, judging by the photos that have surfaced on social media.
