A simple dog walk turns into terror after a black bear charges at the couple

The shocking occurrence took place on Tuesday night when the couple was walking their dog near a neighbor’s home when the angry animal approached them. According to the Daily Mail, local police weren’t notified about the incident. In the clip, the couple is seen running and yelling at their dog as the dog looks back and barks at the bear before entering the home.

‘We were letting the dog out to potty and a bear charged us from our next-door neighbor’s house. We made it safely into the house, and closed and banged on the front door,'” the woman said in an interview with Viral Hog.

Multiple bear sightings have been reported in several Florida neighborhoods

A similar incident took place in the same neighborhood where a couple also encountered a black bear last month. David Bass and his wife were exiting their home when a black bear ran around the corner, leading them to run back inside. Mail Online also reported that a Daytona Beach man was bitten and scratched while fighting off a bear at his home.

In a report by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the organization receives up to 6,000 calls regarding bear sightings and other related issues. However, there have been only 15 reports of incidents involving people who suffered moderate to severe injuries from bear encounters within the past 50 years.

“With more bears and more people in Florida, we are asking all Floridians to take action to make sure our conservation success story continues into the future. Many Floridians live, work, or play where we have bears, and it’s critical that everyone knows how to take precautions to avoid negative encounters with bears.  The most important action is to make sure bears do not have a reason to spend time near people. We can accomplish this by keeping anything that might attract a bear secure on our properties.”

Another way to avoid issues between a dog and a bear is banging on your door, keeping your lights on and off, and using bear spray to keep the animal away.

“If after removing attractants the bear continues to return, the FWC allows members of the public to try to scare the bear. The public can scare bears using non-contact and/or contact methods described below. Non-contact methods rely primarily on making loud noises (such as yelling, using an air horn or whistle), or motion-activated devices like visual and audio alarms or water sprinklers, which can deter bears without anyone being present.

Often, non-contact methods are enough to deter bears that have not yet become used to people, and these actions are safer to use than contact methods.”
