Remembering Legendary Rapper DMX 1 Year After His Passing
This Saturday marks one year since the death of rap legend and Yonkers native DMX.
As it was previously reported, X, whose legal name is Earl Simmons, died on April 9 at the age of 50 in Westchester County, New York. He was hospitalized on April 2 where it was previously reported by TMZ he suffered a drug overdose and heart attack.
According to News 12 Bronx, a one-year celebration of life will take place Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. with a prayer and balloon release at his gravesite in Oakland Cemetery. The news site notes that there will also be a ride out from the cemetery to the Nepperhan Community Center. The ride out will end on School Street where DMX grew up. Meanwhile, DMX’s fans and close celebrity friends have been paying tribute to him online.
Fellow rapper DMX tweeted, “Everyday is DMX day to me🙅🏽♂️ We love you King and we miss you to the MAX !!! DMX 4 LIFE EVERYDAY🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 1yr went fast and it still feels unreal bro….” Another fan added, “A year ago today we lost one of the greatest hiphop artistes of all time, The Great DMX, Rest In Power King 🙏🏾🕊️” A third said, “The world lost one of the most legendary and influential artists of our time one year ago today… From his intense anthems to his beautiful prayers, DMX was an irreplaceable warrior. Rest In Peace Earl Simmons ❤️”
