A South Carolina mother who was mauled by three pit bulls had to be re-sedated after waking up from a coma and learned she lost her arms and colon.

38-year-old Kyleen Waltman’s arms were amputated and her colon was removed after she was viciously attacked last month. Doctors initially planned to attach prosthetics but stated the stumps leftover from the amputation became infected and had to remove those up to the shoulder as reported by TOO FAB. The mother-of-three also learned that she may lose her esophagus.
“Kyleen has been fully woken up and the doctors told her about her arms but, it caused her a great deal of anxiety, so they sedated her. Her blood pressure is still very [sic] and she is running a fever of 102+ her oxygen levels keep falling so she’s back on the ventilator. Mama says it’s like she’s giving up,” Waltman’s sister Amy Wynee wrote on her GoFundMe page.

Waltman was attacked on March 21 while she was walking to her mother’s house in Honea Path when two pure pit bulls and a pitbull mix approached her. She was saved by Avery Presley when he spotted the attack and assumed they were attacking an animal.
The dog’s owner, Justin L. Minor, was arrested two days later and charged with three counts of owning a dangerous animal that caused an attack and injured a human in addition to rabies control and failing to restrain a dangerous animal.
