The 72-year-old man, identified as Dave Smith, revealed to be infected with the virus for several months and considered high-risk due to being immunocompromised along with a history of cancer. Smith said his wife had to plan his funeral five times since he was in and out of the hospital dealing with the illness.

“At one point, I was bedridden for two or three months. My wife had to wash and shave me in bed because I just couldn’t stand up. Sometimes I thought, I wish they’d take me in the middle of the night, because I just can’t go on anymore. You get to the point where you are more afraid of living than you are of dying.”

However, doctors reported that Smith did not recover from the virus after a 15-day treatment of Remdesvir and gave him casirivmab and imdevimab, two antibody treatments. They said his health improved and he tested negative after 45 days of receiving the different medication. Although he is healthy again, the virus has taken a drastic toll on his lungs.

“I’ll never be 100% because the Covid has destroyed my lungs, so I run out of breath quite quickly. But every day I live now is a bonus. I always say, when you’re lying down in the gutter, all you can see is the stars. I’ve been down to the bottom, and everything’s brilliant now.”
