Boxing middleweight world champion Marvin “Marvelous” Hagler has passed away at the age of 66.

The news was confirmed by his wife Kay after she posted a statement to his official fan club page on Facebook. It reads, “I am sorry to make a very sad announcement. Today unfortunately my beloved husband Marvelous Marvin passed away unexpectedly at his home here in New Hampshire. Our family requests that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.” Hagler is known for being the undisputed middleweight champion of the world from 1980 to 1987 until his run came to end after a legendary match with Sugar Ray Leonard.
After his boxing career ended, Hagler also appeared in several movies and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993.

One of his sons told TMZ that Hagler was having breathing issues on Saturday and was transported to a local hospital in New Hampshire where he later died. The cause of death is currently unknown. His former promoter, Bob Arum, released a statement after receiving news of the legend’s sudden passing.
“Marvin Hagler was among the greatest athletes that Top Rank ever promoted. He was a man of honor and a man of his word, and he performed in the ring with unparalleled determination. He was a true athlete and a true man. I will miss him greatly.”
