Tacoma Police Officer Captured On Video Running Over Pedestrians

A police officer was captured on camera running over several pedestrians in Tacoma, Washington Saturday night. One person was reportedly injured from the incident.

According to TMZ, 100 people were blocking an intersection while street racing and other activities occurred. Shortly after, police officers were called to the scene to disperse the large gathering and the crowd started banging on windows on the officers’ SUV. They also started kicking the side of the vehicle before the officer attempted to escape from the crowd.

The Tacoma Police Department said in a statement that the officer feared for his safety during the incident. It reads, “Tacoma Police officers responding to the location began clearing the intersection of vehicles and people for the safety of those gathered and people trying to use the street. During the operation, a responding Tacoma police vehicle was surrounded by the crowd. People hit the body of the police vehicle and its windows as the officer were stopped in the street. The officer, fearing for his safety, tried to back up, but was unable to do so because of the crowd. The officer had his lights and sirens activated. While trying to extricate himself from an unsafe position, the officer drove forward striking one individual and may have impacted others.”

The injured pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment but their condition is unknown. Their condition is currently unknown.
