12-Year-Old California Girl Raises $50K For Homeless Man Who Returned Grandma’s Missing Wallet

A 12-year-old California girl has raised nearly $50,000 for a homeless man who found and returned her grandma’s missing wallet. People reports that 57-year-old Sean Currey was recently looking for food inside a dumpster behind a coffee shop in San Rafael and ended up finding the missing wallet, belonging to 80-year-old Evelyn Topper.

While some people might’ve never returned the wallet, Currey says he only briefly thought about using Topper’s cards before finding her to return it. Currey, who lives in his Chevy Tahoe and has been homeless for almost five years, says, “Anybody in the position of being homeless and cold and tired and hungry, if they found a credit card, they’re going to think about. But whether you’re going to act on it is two different things. I would rather be cold and hungry and know that I did the right thing.”

Topper’s granddaughter Mikayla Gounard says she was already planning to raise money for charity at her drive-by birthday party, but decided to donate the money to Currey. At her party, she collected $475, which she gave to Currey, but then decided to gather more money to help him. Gounard’s GoFundMe campaign has raised $49,645 at the time of publishing this article.
