According to Yahoo! News, the office of Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance revealed Cooper made a second phone call accusing Christian Cooper of assault but when officers arrived, she backtracked on her statement. The office writes, “When responding officers arrived, Ms. Cooper admitted that the male had not ‘tried to assault’ or come into contact with her.” On Wednesday, she was charged at the New York County Criminal Court with falsely reporting an incident and possibly faces a year in jail.

“As alleged in the complaint, Amy Cooper engaged in racist criminal conduct when she falsely accused a Black man of trying to assault her in a previously unreported second call with a 911 dispatcher. Fortunately, no one was injured or killed in the police response to Ms. Cooper’s hoax.”

Cooper has yet to enter a plea and she is in the process of working with prosecutors to avoid jail time for her moment on the internet. Back in May, the entire world caught wind of Cooper calling 911 on Chris after he told her to put her dog on a leash. In the video, she says during the call, “I’m taking a picture and calling the cops. I’m going to tell them there’s an African American man threatening my life.”

As a result of her false 911 call, Cooper has lost her job and dog since she was also seen choking the dog by the leash during the aggressive confrontation with Chris. She said in a statement to CNN that she was not a “racist” and didn’t mean to harm anyone. Over the summer, she was charged with falsely reporting an incident in the third degree.
