Walmart Add Senior Shopping Hour Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

Walmart now joins the growing list of retailers nationwide that have adjusted hours amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The retail giant recently announced that it will be changing its hours to 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The new move was made to give employees enough time to restore shelves and sanitize the store, Walmart said. In addition to that, the company introduced an hourlong senior shopping event every Tuesday for customers ages 60 and older — the most vulnerable to the coronavirus. It was said that senior time will start one hour before the store opens and Walmart’s pharmacies and vision centers will also open during that time.

On top of this, Dacona Smith, executive vice president, and chief operating officer also said in a blog post that Walmart is temporarily shutting down its Auto Care Centers to “focus on the most critical areas of the store right now,” Smith said, adding the auto center employees will focus on stocking and cleaning instead.

Smith added that all shoppers should expect limits on certain items, including paper products, milk, eggs, cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, water, diapers, wipes, formula, and baby food while adding that further adjustments could be needed.

“I think every one of us has had to adjust our daily routines in some way, and it’s likely that could continue,” Smith wrote. “We are paying very close attention to our stores and communities and will continue making the necessary changes to help make sure our associates are taken care of and that our customers can get what they need,” USA Today quotes.
