In a touching video, Felts explains that he’s been using most of his time in quarantine writing a series of memoirs, which brought back old memories. While speaking with his daughter Rebecca, who came out as gay 25 years ago, Kenneth felt compelled to share that he is also gay while opening up about his very first love — a man named Phillip.

Kenneth says he spent most of his life as a straight man and had no intentions to ever come out until lockdown gave him a chance to reflect. Kenneth admitted that he had to hide because homosexuality was illegal in the 1950s and he was very religious at the time. Kenneth and Phillip met in California before Kenneth got married. He later divorced in 1979 and tried to find his first love but recently learned that Phillip passed away 2 years ago.
Despite receiving the unfortunate news, Kenneth is happy that the huge weight is finally lifted off of his shoulders: “I’m free” he said. As part of his newfound freedom, Kenneth is proudly wearing colorful hair, rainbow gear, and says he is ready to “embrace” his truth.
Congrats!
