9-Year-Old Girl Facing Charges After Allegedly Beating 4-Year-Old Brother to Death with Broomstick

A 9-year-old girl is facing criminal charges after she allegedly beat her 4-year-old brother up with a broomstick and he died.

WALA reports that police have charged the girl with first-degree assault, and the boy’s legal guardian Yolanda Denise Coale, 53, is currently locked up for aggravated child abuse.

Coale claims that she woke up to discover that someone was screaming on Wednesday, and the young girl was reportedly beating her little brother with a broomstick. Police report that they discovered evidence of long term abuse on the child’s body.

“She was the legal guardian of the child,” Mobile County Assistant District Attorney Louis Walker said, to WALA.

“During the course of the investigation, Mobile police found evidence of abuse for this child, and then he was found deceased.”

Per WPMI, the complaint read that the 9-year-old “did willfully torture, willfully abuse and cruelly beat” her brother.

Coale’s bail has been set at $150,000.

“I’ve been over there before. It’s really a nice house, it’s clean on the inside and the kids have nice toys. The kids always dress nice, so I really don’t understand what happened,” a neighbor said to WPMI. “They seemed like a really nice family and there’s always a lot of kids over there playing all the time, so it was really devastating to hear what happened.”
